Every encore
like the first
Think back to the first gig that changed your week: the sticky floor, the borrowed t-shirt, every word shouted back. We started this band to be somebody's that night — and twenty years later, that is still the entire business plan.
A lock-up, a borrowed amp, a bet
Nightreel began in a rented lock-up with one borrowed amplifier and a bet: if we could empty a Friday-night bar, we would keep going. We emptied it. Then a club, then a tent, then a field. The rooms changed size; the method never did — four people in a circle, songs built at full volume, nothing recorded until it works with an audience breathing on it.
What twenty years teaches you
It teaches you that the encore is not a bonus, it is the point. That a new song earns its place by surviving a Tuesday crowd, not a studio. That the kid in the front row in a hand-painted shirt is the whole industry, and everybody else is support staff. So we play the last twenty minutes like the first show depends on it — because once, it did.
Come and check our working
Six dates this winter, from festival main stages to a 200-cap room in Chicago where you can hear the sticks click. If you have never seen us, start with the small room. If you have, you already know about the encore.
